Tribal started as a partnership between Lance Trumble and Jack Matthews of Matthews Southwest that focused over the past decade on office and industrial real estate development in Canada. Recently, Sylvie Lachance joined Tribal as a third partner, bringing a wealth of expertise in the newly added retail class of investment. The foundation of Tribal’s growth and ongoing success has been our collaborative approach to business by providing complete transparency, strategic intelligence and the expertise to execute and deliver projects on time and on budget for our partners. Tribal is an entrepreneurial real estate developer, creating value for private and institutional investors. Lance Trumble
Managing Director and Founding Partner

Lance has over 30 years of real estate experience. After serving several years as Vice President Investment Sales Canadian head office for Cushman Wakefield, Lance joined Scotia Capital as Managing Director Investment Banking. In this position Lance built and lead Scotia Capital’s real estate brokerage, advisory and debt activities. Over the past decade as founding partner and managing director of Tribal, Lance has sourced, lead and delivered numerous commercial development projects.


John H (Jack) Matthews
Founding Partner and President, Matthews Southwest

Since 1994, as leader of Matthews Southwest (MSW), Jack has developed innovative, quality commercial, industrial and residential projects in Canada, the United States, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Under his leadership Matthews Southwest revenues grew from $69 million to over $500 million. Jack has led the completion of many diverse projects including hotels, condominiums, offices, retail, residential and industrial space. From imagining to creating, acquiring the land, financing the deal, building the project, then holding or selling on completion – Jack creates value at all stages in the process.


Sylvie Lachance
Managing Director and Partner

Sylvie is a commercial lawyer by training, she has spent over 30 years redeveloping the Canadian commercial real estate landscape. A career starting at Provigo, lead her to an instrumental role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at First Capital Realty, Canada’s largest neighborhood shopping center developer and operator. Until 2017, as the Executive Vice President of Real Estate & Development for Sobeys, Sylvie was responsible for the formulation and implementation of Sobey’s national real estate strategy.
